Rape and sexual harassment are OK, because Orange Man Bad!

By Scott Tibbs, March 7, 2025

I have reached the point in my life where my most basic political principle is this: I am not part of a cult. I reject the "all or nothing" mentality that demands either 100% total support or 100% total opposition to a political party, elected official or candidate for office. (This is most common around President Trump.) I will continue to think for myself. If you tell me it has to be all or nothing, then consider it nothing. I will not join your cult. I reject your "god." I am a blasphemer and a heretic.

(Here is my disclaimer: Not all Trump supporters are part of a cult. The vast majority are not. It would be absurd to argue that 77 million people are in a cult. But some certainly are. As a corollary, not all Trump opponents are part of a cult. The vast majority are not. It would be absurd to argue that 75 million people are in a cult. But some certainly are.)

I have railed against the "all or nothing" mentality by Trump cultists many times. But that also exists on the Left, among people who hate Trump. Over on BlueSky, we actually had Leftists whining and crying that National Public Radio should not report on sexual misconduct and sexual abuse in the federal judiciary because we need the courts to stop Trump. The Orange Man is Bad, you see, and if a few women get raped, molested or harassed it is worth covering it up to stop the Bad Orange Man. Here are some of the comments. Do I really need to state the obvious again? No, but I will anyway. This is what a cult looks like. Saying that the news media should not report on the sexual abuse of women because it might impede efforts to stop Trump is what a cult would do. Orange Man Bad! The judiciary is our only hope against Orange Man, who is Bad!

Yes, I know a few cranks on BlueSky are not representative of the entire Democratic Party or the entire Left. But it is a window into the "all or nothing" cult mentality on both sides that poisons our politics and culture, and it must be exposed and opposed.

Imagine if the congregation of a church were to attack prosecutors investigating and journalists reporting on sexual abuse by pastors of their church because the church leaders stand against some sort of enemy. They would be accused of abandoning Jesus' teachings, refusing to care for "the least of these," hypocrisy, total lack of Christian love, and maybe even being sexual predators themselves. The word cult would be thrown around a lot.

I am sure these anti-Trump cultists support the "Me Too" movement to hold powerful figures accountable for sexual harassment, sexual assault and general mistreatment of women. The response to this scandal, of course, proves that any support for "Me Too" among the cult is and always was a fraud and a hoax. They do not care about victims at all, nor do they care about holding perpetrators accountable. All of that is secondary to "preserving democracy" from the Orange Man, who I remind you is Bad. Don't you get it? Orange Man Bad!

All of this is shameful, disgusting and repulsive. It is 100% blind loyalty to a cause, with absolutely no dissent allowed. Victims are wrong for speaking out against the Holy Prophets of the Judiciary, peace be upon them. Of course, I reject this religion. I will remain a blasphemer and a heretic.
