Have "America First" conservatives forgotten September 11?

By Scott Tibbs, January 4, 2024

After the end of the Cold War, there was a bipartisan urge to back away from interventionism abroad, especially military interventionism. We should focus on our problems at home. This is a good instinct, but we started to lose focus from the real enemies who desire the annihilation of these United States. We were shocked back to reality when Muslim terrorists flew passenger planes into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. We realized then that we were in a global War on Terror, and some of us realized this is a religious war.

Now, more than 22 years after September 11, we are seeing some of the isolationist elements of the conservative movement advocating retreating from this fight. The war crimes of October 7, 2023 are not our problem. We should let Israel take care of itself. (Funny how this does not include demanding President Biden stop pressuring Israel for repeated "humanitarian" pauses in fighting.) These people are totally myopic.

Have isolationist "America First" conservatives forgotten 9/11? That was only one example of the war crimes committed by Muslim terrorists against these United States, targeting innocent civilians - including women and children - for mass murder. What about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the Boston Marathon bombing, the Pulse Nightclub massacre, and the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing? I could name many, many more war crimes committed by Muslim terrorists.

Of course the defeat of Hamas matters to these United States. Republicans - even those who believe in "America First" - used to understand this. The Muslim terrorists are a direct threat to your family. America First means exterminating Hamas. We do not have to put American boots on the ground to do this, and despite the shameless lies of people like Tucker Carlson, no one is advocating that. We should simply allow Israel to do what is necessary to obliterate this terrorist group and kill as many of their fighters as possible.

We cannot simply drop out of the world. If Muslim terrorists are allowed to choke off critical trade routes or threaten American ships, it will drive up prices here at home and make our economic "stagflation" problem even worse. If we are weak in the face of jihadist war criminals, we will encourage more terrorist attacks on our homeland. Remember, our retreat from Somalia is what convinced Osama bin Laden that we were "weak" and could be attacked with impunity. There is a direct line from the Mogadishu Massacre to the destruction of the Twin Towers.

The global War on Terror against these barbarians has been waging for generations - decades before 9/11 ever happened. No one wants endless war, but the war will not stop if we stop fighting back. Muslim terrorists will continue beheading or kidnapping infants, raping women, castrating men and butchering civilians in the most sadistic ways imaginable - things that are just as barbaric as the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide or the Rape of Nanking. Allowing Israel to destroy Hamas is a necessary part of protecting our own people. Those who would retreat from fighting Muslim terrorists are not America First.
