Donald Trump's Veterans Day victimhood

By Scott Tibbs, November 27, 2023

Veterans Day: Originally known as Armistice Day to remember the end of "The War to End All Wars," we now celebrate all veterans of all wars. So it was refreshing to see the presumptive Republican nominee for President put aside his ranting and venting on social media, and the endless trolling and taunting of his political enemies. Instead, he decided to not make this day all about himself, and honor the veterans who sacrificed their lives and fought in terrible conditions to protect our freedom. For once, President Trump was statesmanlike.

Just kidding!

No, President Trump decided he needed to post an unhinged rant on social media. This one goes far beyond rooting out people in the bureaucracy (the "Deep State") who have sabotaged the agenda of previous Presidents. This time there is no limiting principle. He promised to "root out the... vermin within the confines of our Country." Radley Balko pointed out on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump is using "language that has historically resulted in mass graves."

Do I think that Trump actually is planning to round up political enemies, put them in concentration camps, and slaughter them en masse? Remember, this is the same guy who was so enraged when Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the probe of Russia's involvement in the 2016 campaign that he... um... well, he tweeted about it a lot. Sessions, a Trump loyalist who was the first U.S. Senator to endorse Trump in the 2016 primary, eventually resigned. Trump could have fired Sessions, but did not. Trump is most likely just venting his spleen again, showing the same lack of discipline and lack of professionalism that plagued him for his entire time in office.

That really is the story of Donald Trump. On a day when the last (and possibly next) Commander-In-Chief should be honoring this nation's veterans, he was incapable of doing that. He was compelled to make it all about himself, his grievances, and his perpetual victimhood. He stubbornly refuses to do the basic, normal things that in years past would have been expected. Can you imagine the howls of outrage from the Right if Barack Obama had posted the same rant in 2013?

This is indeed deeply irresponsible rhetoric that does nothing to "make America great again" but does serve to make everything worse by needlessly inflaming tensions and making both sides angry at each other. Trump did not make any kind of policy statement or present any concrete plan to fight against the Left via legislative or administrative action. He was seething and venting.

People, this is not how a President of these United States should behave. At a time when we need stable leadership and concrete plans for leading our country out of a national malaise, the leading Republican is angrily ranting instead, parading his victimhood for all to see. This gains him no support, but it does motivate the opposition. We do not need this immature man-child back in the White House in 2025.
In honor of our great Veterans on Veteran’s Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists, and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our Country, lie, steal, and cheat on Elections, and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American Dream. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave, than the threat from within. Despite the hatred and anger of the Radical Left Lunatics who want to destroy our Country, we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
