The fraudulent "compassion" of Mayor Hamilton

By Scott Tibbs, October 3, 2022

Having compassion for criminals is fine, but not when that "compassion" causes law-abiding citizens to be raped, beaten and murdered. It is not fine when the "compassion" leads to three thousand needles - half of them used - being confiscated in Seminary Square Park alone in 2021 and 2022. This is false compassion, and it is evil.

The man who caused a huge police deployment downtown a couple weeks ago, leading to Franklin Hall getting evacuated and the Seminary Square Kroger being evacuated and closed "was charged with auto theft in Owen County and with theft and criminal mischief in Greene County" in 2019, according to the Herald-Times. He admitted to committing "battery against a public safety official, battery by bodily waste and criminal mischief" in 2021. Obviously, we have a very serious problem when our "judges" keep letting violent criminals back into society to victimize even more people.

What led to his arrest in 2022 was an alleged home invasion and sexual assault. He fled to Seminary Square Park - the historic original home of Indiana University - and attempted to batter people with a metal pipe before fleeing into the storm sewer. The city's SWAT team was forced to drop "flash bang" grenades into the sewer to flush him out. Releasing him again should be considered nothing less than a criminal act against the law-abiding citizens of Bloomington.

I have previously quoted the Herald-Times on how many used needles were found in Seminary Square Park in 2020. Mayor Hamilton pledged to clean up the park, as the criminal element there had become a danger to surrounding businesses and their employees. City parks staff informed me that 2,095 needles were picked up in the park in 2021. Just under half - 1,008 needles - had been used and 1087 had not been used. Through September 22, 2022, city staff found 1039 needles in the park. 593 were unused and 446 were used.

Mayor Hamilton is well on his way to making Bloomington into the San Francisco of the Midwest. Now we just need people urinating and defecating all over downtown to make the transformation complete. This is not something the citizens of Bloomington should tolerate, and we have a chance to end this foolishness in 2023 by electing a new Mayor. Fellow citizens, do not allow your hatred of Donald Trump to keep Hamilton in power. The Orange Man may be Bad, but can you please stop punishing your neighbors because of it?
