The City Council wages a pro-abortion culture war
Printed in the Herald-Times, November XX, 2022
To the Editor:
The Bloomington City Council’s decision to spend over one hundred thousand dollars of taxpayer money to directly fund abortion is terribly wicked and represents a deep disdain for the citizens under the council’s authority. While the councilors droned on about choice and autonomy, they did not even attempt to justify forcing taxpayers to fund abortion.
Meanwhile, our Mayor has allowed Seminary Square Park – the historic original home of Indiana University – to become a no-go zone for families. City parks staff informed me that they found 2,095 needles in the park in 2021, and 1039 more needles through September 22, 2022. City government is neglecting basic public safety duties in order to wage a culture war against its own citizens. Make no mistake: Forcing taxpayers to fund abortions is an act of culture war aggression.
What I found striking is how many times the councilors forced themselves to say “people capable of pregnancy” instead of “women.” They stripped away the glory of womanhood by pretending that anyone other than women can gestate a new life. This misogyny is perfectly consistent with a pro-abortion ideology: That women can only be equal to men if we eliminate the wonderful gift biology gives them.
