"Zero COVID" is a foolish hoax
By Scott Tibbs, October 18, 2021
COVID-19 is never going to go away. Like the common cold and influenza, COVID-19 will be with us for the rest of human history. Anyone who has read even the smallest amount about this virus and how it spreads knows this. That is why it was so foolish for Dr. Anthony Fauci to say this:
"It is an assumption that it's okay to get infected and to get mild to moderate disease as long as you don’t wind up in the hospital and die. And I have to be open and honest. I reject that. I think we should be preventing people from getting sick from Covid, even if they don’t wind up in the hospital."
This is insane. Fauci is pursuing the myth of "zero COVID." We will
never reach zero COVID. And here is the reality: Fauci knows this, probably better than anyone. What Fauci said was not a scientific statement. Fauci made a political statement meant to justify continued or even expanded use of government restrictions. This is why so many people have lost respect for this man and have turned against him.
I defended Fauci early on. I told people who hated him that I thought that he was legitimately trying to do his best to save lives and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed while a new virus was spreading across the world. Maybe Fauci was overcautious in his recommendations, but he wanted to stop the pandemic and save lives. I still believe he had good intentions at that time. I do not believe that any more. Fauci has let his fame and power go to his head, which has become inflated beyond all reason.
It is the
"Zero COVID" hoax that led Fauci to say that it is "too soon" to say whether people will be allowed to get together for Christmas. The only reasonable answer from the American people to this nonsense is "buzz off." Fauci does not get to tell people - especially vaccinated adults- we cannot gather with family for Christmas. If we can have people crowding football stadiums, there is no legitimate reason we should not have smaller gatherings with family to celebrate important holidays.
The American people have put up with a lot during this pandemic. We have endured forcibly closing businesses, quarantines, mask mandates and unreasonable gathering limits. Fauci and others think these powers should last forever, and COVID-19 is a convenient excuse to "protect" us by micromanaging every aspect of our lives. Fauci's comments about even mild infections among vaccinated people being unacceptable ought to be the last straw. It is time to stand up and say "NO!" to petty tyrants.
