False attacks on Republican Presidents by Trump fans
By Scott Tibbs, July 27, 2021
One of the things I have seen on social media over the last four years was that Donald Trump was the only President who stood up for America, because previous Presidents (including Republicans) were "globalists" who sold out the country. This is wrong, and represents little more than personal fandom of Trump himself, rather than a serious examination of history and policy.
George W. Bush was not perfect, but he did not "sell us out." He took the fight to the Muslim terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. Bush also signed the Secure Fence Act passed by the Republican Congress to create physical barriers to illegal immigration. No, Bush did not "build the wall" but we should not pretend that Trump was the first Republican interested in border security.
Ronald Reagan certainly did not sell us out to the globalists. Reagan's military buildup and aggressive pro-American foreign policy hastened the demise of the Soviet Union, a truly Evil Empire which had murdered 30 million of its own citizens. Reagan also aggressively confronted Muslim terrorists, including the terrorist regimes in Iran and Libya. Reagan also stopped a Communist takeover of Grenada.
Richard Nixon warmed relations with China, but that was because he wanted to weaken the Soviet Union. And it worked. The Soviets were the more immediate threat and had to be taken down.
Trump is not the be-all and end-all of Republican presidents and all of this gushing about his "greatness" while dismissing all of the pro-America accomplishments of previous Presidents borders on and far too often crosses over into actual idolatry. I voted for Trump in the 2020 general election, but he is not my Messiah. Way too many MAGA "conservatives" treat him like he is. Repent of this wicked idolatry.
