Jerry Falwell Jr. continues to clown himself

By Scott Tibbs, April 1, 2019

In an absurd Twitter post, Jerry Falwell Jr. leaped to the defense of Donald Trump, whining:
"You nuts attacking @realDonaldTrump for securing the border need to show me where Jesus told Caesar how to run Rome."
Really? If Falwell was a proponent of a branch of Radical Two Kingdom theology that told Christians not to involve themselves in public policy or politics, then I could respect his argument. This is clearly not the case. Falwell is opposed to legalized abortion and government recognizing same-sex marriage, and he supports gun rights. His father founded the Moral Majority, which was a major force in Republican politics in the 1980's. Falwell clearly does not believe the principle he outlined in his Tweet. He is a hypocrite and a liar.

Look, there are plenty of reasons that Christians can support the President's policies on border security, including a physical barrier. None of that is inherently un-Christian. But to pretend that Christians cannot advocate for specific policy on Biblical grounds is asinine, and Falwell knows it. From the various prophets bringing God's commands to the kings of the Old Testament to John the Baptist rebuking King Herod to the Apostle Paul exercising his right to appeal to Caesar, Christians have always been in the public square. Christians have history of advocating for righteousness in public policy dating back two thousand years.

I have to wonder if Falwell is just a dim bulb. There are so many better arguments to make in support of Donald Trump, but Falwell has clowned himself over and over with abject stupidity. Many of his "arguments" are heresy and blasphemy, betraying Christians who struggle with sexual sin and seek escape from it. He does not look like a principled Christian supporting a flawed man who has delivered solid conservative policy, but a cultist who looks at Trump the way the Branch Davidians looked at David Koresh. I would never send my sons to Liberty University while Falwell leads it. No other Christian should either.
