Dissapointed that Skillman will not run in 2012

Printed in the Indianapolis Star, December 29, 2010

To the Editor:

I was very disappointed by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman's announcement that she will not run for governor in 2012. Of the names I have seen of potential contenders, Skillman is far and away the most qualified.

Skillman served 16 years as an elected official in Lawrence County and served as the president of the Association of Indiana Counties. She then served 12 years in the Indiana State Senate and took a leadership role there. She has served in government at some level since 1976.

Skillman's familiarity with the workings of county government plus her experience in the state senate made her an ideal choice in 2004, and eight years as lieutenant governor puts her in a better position than anyone else to serve as our next governor.

I wish Mrs. Skillman the best in her future endeavors.
