To the Editor:
I am deeply saddened by reports of an "adult film" company making parts of a pornographic movie in the Teter dormitory. According to the Indiana Daily Student, four "actresses" from Shane Enterprises performed sex acts on 20 to 30 students (up to 100 more may have participated) who signed waivers for their likenesses to appear in the film.
This is disturbing on several fronts. First, the lack of self-respect it takes perform sex acts on multiple strangers who you will never see again; the lack of self-respect by the recipients of those sex acts who "shared" the actresses with several other students; and the lack of respect by the students who were "serviced" for the people who also live on their floor. Those who participated in this behavior may argue that it was between "consenting adults", but did other residents of Teter-Wissler consent to their shared living space being a makeshift studio for a pornographic movie?
Has sexual intimacy been so cheapened? What about loving and respecting one's partner, and caring about their hopes, dreams, beliefs, and value as a person? Are people now to be viewed as simply toys for someone's sexual pleasure, not as a human being with value far beyond the physical?
Sadly, the filming of "Campus Invasion" on IU property isn't surprising given the attitude toward sexual morality in our culture.
