Was Terri Schiavo abused?
Scott Tibbs, October 16, 2003
Last week, Florida did the right thing and prevented Terri Schiavo's "husband", Michael Schiavo, from having her starved to death. But last Monday, LifeNews.com reported a disturbing new angle to this case. Terri's parents say that the reason her "husband" wants to have her cremated is to hide his abuse of her. They say her heart attack may not have been a result of a potassium imbalance, but of abuse. Read the following quote:
A bone scan was conducted on Terri in March 1991. The scan showed Terri was the victim of "previous traumas," indicating she may have been beaten or abused. Years later, when the document was finally revealed in Terri's medical files, Pinellas County State Attorney Bernie McCabe said too much time had elapsed and would not investigate.
A Web search also reveals articles on this from the St. Petersburg Times, World Net Daily, CNSNews.com, and Rense.com. There is a letter on the matter at FriendsOfTerri.org as well.
As I mentioned in my column, Terri's "husband" is living with another woman, with whom he has fathered two children. But he refuses to divorce Terri. Could this be because he stands to inherit the money in Terri's trust fund? World Net Daily reports:
Two years after Terri's collapse a jury awarded Schiavo $1.3 million in a malpractice lawsuit he brought against her doctors. The money was placed in a trust fund to pay for medical treatment and rehabilitation, but she has received no therapy in over 10 years and only minimal nursing care...
The fact that Schiavo would inherit upon her death whatever is left in Terri's medical trust fund set up with the money from the malpractice suit presents a second conflict of interest.
So what we have here is this: Terri's "husband", who may have caused Terri's medical condition through abuse and is now living with another woman, stands to inherit a large sum of money upon her death. He has been fighting for years to have her not only killed, but starved to death. Is it a surprise that so many people have been fighting so hard to save Terri's life?
The fact that this kind of unspeakable evil can happen here in America is shocking. The fact that Florida Governor Jeb Bush felt that the Florida Legislature had to pass a special law to save Terri's life is distressing. Bush should have simply ignored the court order and sent in state authorities to stop the removal of Terri's feeding tube. President George W. Bush would have had the power to send federal authorities to do the same thing. Clearly, Terri's 14th Amendment right to "equal protection of the laws" (in this case murder laws) was violated by the courts. The Constitution must be enforced over a renegade court that is ignoring it, and the judge who ordered Terri murdered must be impeached.
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? -- Proverbs 24:11-12 (NIV)
