Show support for life

To the editor:

This January will mark 34 years since a majority on the Supreme Court threw out laws against abortion in all 50 states. Since that time, well over 45 million unborn children have lost their lives to “reproductive choice.”

On Jan. 21, Monroe County residents will have an opportunity to sadly remember those lost lives at the 2007 Rally for Life. I encourage anyone who believes that all life is sacred and should be protected by law to attend.

Some progress is being made, but we still have a long way to go to reach a society where all life is valued and protected. One way we can do this is by searching for reasonable areas of compromise, such as allowing medical professionals to opt out of abortion procedures. Unfortunately, Congressman Baron Hill voted against the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act in 2002.

Another area of compromise is to not force pro-life taxpayers to subsidize Bloomington’s abortion clinic, but the city council has given a handout to Planned Parenthood for eight consecutive years. This corporate welfare should be cut off in June.

Please come to the Monroe County Courthouse on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. to show support for life.
