NARAL's invitation

The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League has issued an open letter to pro-lifers urging them to jump on board a movement to provide easier access to birth control. I do not agree with and will not sign this petition.

Birth control creates the atmosphere that makes abortion acceptable. When you separate sexual behavior from the natural results of sexuality, you make children an inconvenience (or an "accident") rather than a blessing. When birth control fails, as it sometimes does, abortion is a second option to make sure a child is not born.

More importantly, some methods of birth control cause abortion. "The pill", for example, can prevent a fertilized embryo (a new human being) from implanting in the uterus and thus causing him or her to die. While Planned Parenthood and others may argue that this does not qualify as "abortion" based on strict definitions of pregnancy that requires implantation, the fact remains that some forms of birth control can actually kill a newly-formed human being.

Here is ALL's page on birth control. I don't agree with everything on there, but it does contain some explanations why many pro-lifers oppose birth control as well as abortion.
