To the editor:
I am concerned about a new Bible translation known as "Today's New International Version." This translation attempts to be more "inclusive" (politically correct) by changing pronouns to more gender-neutral forms.
The problem with this translation is that fatherhood is an essential part of Biblical doctrine. God is our Heavenly Father, and we are His sons. As His sons, we receive the inheritance of a son, which is an eternity in paradise with Him.
Why would today's politically correct society want to remove fatherhood from the Bible? Thanks to no-fault divorce, the devaluation of marriage and the debasement of sexuality, we are a fatherless culture. Men, emboldened by the knowledge that their children can be legally killed before birth, now abandon in droves the families they create while going on to impregnate more women.
The First Amendment guarantees the right to print whatever interpretation of the Bible men deem appropriate, and the right to read those scriptures. There are, however, spiritual consequences. The TNIV translation significantly changes the meaning of some parts of Scripture. Revelation 22:18-19 provides a warning to those who would change God's word to say what they want to hear instead of what God originally inspired.
